Commissioned by the City of Providence, Rhode Island, artist William C. Culbertson designed and constructed three a large scale sculptures, River~Beacons, as part of the arts festival, Convergence XI in downtown Providence. The three pieces, ranging in height from fourteen feet to twenty-two feet, are constructed mainly of aluminum. The four spheres near the tops of the sculptures house internal lights that transform the white globes to a glowing blue at night. The pieces were designed using the computer program 3DS Max .
