Volume 1: Chapter 7 Notes and Corrections

Return to Previous

Page 239 (Image 7.1)
Image 7.1 has an error. The image shows the Generate Mapping Coords. tick box unchecked. It should be checked (the default setting). If it is unchecked, the image you apply from the Material Editor will not work.

If you have already converted the plane to an Editable Poly, delete it and make a new one. The Generate Mapping Coords. option disappears after converting.

The last paragraph on the page, the book suggests changing the z-Coordinate display to 2.0 meters. It should say 1.0 meters.

Page 240 (Image 7.2)
In the book, it asks you to change the Z-Coordinate Display value to -6.5 meters. This is an error, it should read to change the Z-coordinate to -.65 meters.

There is a glitch in 3ds Max 2020. In the UV Editor window, when you are changing the background image, the new image may not appear. If you go back to the drop down menu, just under the "Pick Texture" selection that you clicked on is another selection, "Remove Texture." Select this and your image will appear. For some reason, 3ds Max is not removing the old image, but does so when you manually remove it.

Page 252
The text asks you to render an image at a size of "800 x 700." It should read "800 x 600," the preset size of a button offered in the menu.

Page 294
The left picture of Image 7.82 reads "col caps front." It should read "col sides front."

Page 295
In the blue chart on the lower-half of the page, in the first colum list, "lower sides rt" should be "col left side."
