I am at chap 3 the save 3-1.max.save 3-2.max scene explorer did not
match what you described in the text.
which is a better way to organize the project--the text way or the companion disk way or no difference
thanks

Hi Oakmill-

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I was tied up the last two days. I'll try to respond quicker.

I appreciate you taking the time to send me your question. The reason there it a difference is due to a problem I had with the files. Long story short, I had to save the files as .obj files, open them in Max again and save. It was a hardware issue. I think when they were saved as a.obj, the Scene Explorer data was stripped out. Sorry! When I have some time, I'll work at replacing them with new, original ones.

The files originally followed the description in the book. If you can, you should try to follow the description in the book. Over the past few releases of the program, the Scene Explorer has been open by default when you start the program. It wasn't always this way. I have noticed my students grew accustomed to it right off the bat. I suggest using it, as configured in the book description to get used to it and to keep things organized.

Hope this helps. Please don't hesitate in sending along questions or comments. Fixing errors can only help everyone. I hope you like the approach of the book and find it useful. I'll certainly try to help where I can.

Update: All the companion files have been updated with the correct object names in the Scene Explorer. There might still be a few errant cases. Please go by the book descriptions.
